Redouble your efforts in the fight against illegal mining – Nana Yaw Agyei urges President Mahama

The Kyidomhene of Mpasatia in the Ashanti region, Nana Yaw Agyei, says the year 2025 was full of calamities and failure, and there is the need to do retrospection for the actual causes and the way forward in the year 2026

.He said without proper retrospect, people would continue to usher in the new year with the same mindset and attitudes, which would automatically thwart the nation-building.

He explained that Ghana needs peace and unity at this crucial period where a new government has been formed for all to come on board to bring their expertise and experiences together to build the Ghana we want. According to him, some politicians still see Ghana as their “property”, looking at their arrogant and pompous utterances.

“Our forefathers, who set the foundation of Ghana, are no more. How much are we?” He asked. Nana Yaw Agyei, who is also the “Sodohene” of Toase, made the comments in an interview with this journalist to usher in 2026.He said President Mahama must put in much effort in dealing with illegal mining, popularly known as “galamsey”

.The chief recalled that, prior to the 2024 general election, President John Dramani Mahama made strong pronouncements to deal with environmental activities like illegal mining when given the nod as the president. Nana Yaw Agyei said,

‘Though the President is doing what he can, he must redouble his efforts to fight environmental activities, precisely illegal mining, which is destroying farmlands, water bodies and forest reserves in the country.’On his advice to the youth,

Nana Yaw Agyei charged them to focus on their trade and desist from allowing themselves to be influenced by a token of money by politicians that could jeopardise their future.

“You are the future of Ghana, and you must not allow yourselves to be taken for granted by politicians,” he added. Nana Yaw Agyei charged all Ghanaians to usher in 2026 with hard work and dedication in order to succeed.
