The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sekyere Kumawu in the Ashanti Region, Mr. Samuel Addai Agyekum, has commended the headteachers of the various senior high schools (SHSs) in the district for fully complying with the directives of the Ghana Education Service (GES) on the ongoing admission of first-year SHS students.

The SHSs in the district are Tweneboah Kodua SHS, Dadease Agric SHS, Bodomase SHTS, Bankoman SHS and Kumawu Technical Institute.

He also heaped praises on the District Director of Education, Mr. Oduro Owusu, and his team for following the directives of GES to ensure a smooth admission process.

According to him, the headteachers and the director of education deserve commendation for adhering to all the directives of GES .

The DCE said, “Even though the process is still ongoing, it has gone down well and we have not had any complaint from any parent or guardian. I wish, on behalf of Sekyere Kumawu Assembly and our Member of Parliament (MP), Mr. Ernest Anim, to commend our headteachers and our district education director for a good work done.”

“We strongly believe our hard-working headteachers with the support of the district director would continue to ensure compliance with GES directives as far as the admission of first-year SHS students is concerned,” he added.

Mr. Agyekum gave the commendation at the District Assembly general meeting held on Thursday, 7th December 2023, after the district education oversight committee had embarked on monitoring across the various senior high/technical schools in the district.

Besides, he was excited about how the headteachers and their staff members take time to advise and guide parents and their children through the admission process.

“If they do something bad, we will talk about it. Hence, it’s worth commending them to encourage them to continue to do the right thing for the betterment of Sekyere Kumawu and Ghana as a whole,” he stressed.

He admonished parents and guardians and their children and wards to also adhere to the advice of the headteachers to help them comply with the GES directives.

“Let’s all, as stakeholders, contribution our quota to support the provision of quality education devoid of all negative tendencies,” he emphasised.

The Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration is committed to ensuring that no one is left out from enjoying the free Senior High/TVET Education.

It is public knowledge that GES has so far interdicted a number of headteachers in some senior high schools for not complying with the directives on the admission of first-year SHS students.
