Profile
Daddy Lumba (born 29 September 1964) was a Ghanaian singer-songwriter and musician, and has about 34 albums to his name. Born Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, he is widely regarded as the greatest Ghanaian musician of all time.
Daddy Lumba’s music career started at the age of 16. In Juaben SHS, he formed the Lumba Brothers group with his friends Yaw and Kwabena and his girlfriend, Theresa Abebrese.
After school, with the help of Theresa, Daddy Lumba travelled to Germany to seek greener pastures.
In Germany, he met Ernest Nana Acheampong. Nana had already formed a group called Talking Dreams with a white man.
The only thing Lumba knew at the time was gospel music, and he has credited Nana Acheampong with introducing him to highlife music.
They formed another group called Lumba Brothers, the same name as his first group when he was in Juaben SHS.
The pair planned to release an album in 1986, but due to financial constraints, the album was released in 1989 with the help of Lumba’s wife, Akosua Serwaa, who produced the album. The title of the album is Yɛɛyɛ Aka Akwantuo Mu.
Daddy Lumba, in all, has released 33 albums. The albums include critically acclaimed ones such as Aben Wɔha, Awosuɔ, Obi Ate Me So Buɔ, Sika Asɛm and Ebi Se Ɛyɛ Aduro.
In 1999, he won three awards, including Best Album, Artist of the Year and the Most Popular Song of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards. Before the year 2002, Daddy Lumba came out every year with a hit album.
His solo career has not been devoid of controversy; one moment, he would release a gospel album, and the next, he would shock people with his provocative lyrics and music videos
He is married with children.

“I’m advising all Ghanaians, especially the youth, to desist from tagging their mothers and old ladies as witches, but rather they should exhibit the greatest respect and love for their mothers,” he stressed.
“I’m calling on the youth to commit themselves to hard work to enable them to take good care of their parents. Let’s desist from the wrong perception that if things don’t go well with us, it means our mothers or some old women somewhere are working against us. Let’s devote our time to work hard and it shall be well with us to take good care of our mothers,” he added.

A number of participants, in an interview with the media after the event, said the performance of the guest musicians exceeded all expectations, becoming a night filled with divine energy, powerful music, and an overwhelming sense of spiritual renewal.
The Ashanti Konnect concert musical festival, according to the organisers, was more than just a musical celebration. It was also an opportunity for the people of the region to come together and reflect on the true essence of Easter.
In a remark, Dr. Amoakohene has expressed his gratitude to MTN Ghana for its significant sponsorship of the Ashanti Konnect concert musical festival, a key event in the Ashantifest 2025 celebrations.
According to Dr. Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Co-ordinating Council deliberately avoided using public funds or state to sponsor the festival to avoid criticism of extravagant spending.
Instead, the council reached out to institutions and corporate entities, and MTN Ghana responded positively by sponsoring the music festival.
Dr. Amoakohene, therefore, commended MTN Ghana for its support.
He admitted that the Ashanti Region has come to accept MTN as a preferred telecommunications network partner. “I am urging all of you to use MTN network and to those who do not have the SIM, I’m going to buy MTN Sim card for all of you as an appreciation for what the company has done for us,” he added.
Dr. Amoakohene specifically thanked MTN Ghana for providing a free special bundle (*141# Ashantifest 2025 bundle).
The minister explained that the Ashantifest 2025 celebration was designed to showcase talents in various sectors, promote individual talents, and unite the region to achieve great things.
The festival featured a range of activities, including a clean-up exercise, football, boxing night, education, science, and technology exhibitions, cultural festivals, food festivals, jama festival, medical screening, among others.
Dr. Amoakohene also highlighted some of the notable achievements of the festival, including the renovation of the Ghana Prison Clinic in Kumasi to provide quality healthcare delivery for inmates.
Besides, he mentioned that the festival had brought attention to the plight of inmates, leading to donations to help them celebrate Easter and the provision of legal aid to those in need.
He revealed that 66 inmates on the amnesty list were to be presented to the President for possible presidential pardon.
The Ashantifest 2025 celebration was a resounding success, thanks in part to the partnership between the Ashanti Regional Co-ordinating Council and MTN Ghana.
Dr. Amoakohene’s commitment to promoting talent, unity, and development in the region is evident in the diverse range of activities and initiatives undertaken during the festival.
The impact of Ashantifest 2025 extends beyond the celebrations themselves, with tangible benefits for the community, including improved healthcare for inmates and support for those in need.
The Rattray Park in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi, is expected to be kept alive by the maiden Ashanti Konnect concert musical festival sponsored by MTN Ghana, the leading telecommunications network in the country as part of its support to the ongoing Ashantifest organised by the Ashanti Regional Co-ordinating Council led by Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister.
The event promises to be an exhilarating moment as popular artists, such as Ypee,
Mass Mello, Bosoma, Seven Kiss and Allo Dancers, will gear up to thrill Ghanaians, especially those in the Ashanti Region, with music.
The event is scheduled to take place at the Rattray Park tomorrow, Saturday,19th April 2025, from 5:30 pm to daybreak.
According to the organisers, the Ashanti Festival Concert is more than just a musical celebration; it is an opportunity for the community to come together and reflect on the true essence of Easter.
The event seeks to foster unity, renewal, and a sense of gratitude among attendees, providing a platform for people from all backgrounds to celebrate hope, redemption, and love.
Powered by MTN Ghana, this annual concert has a strong legacy of excellence, having featured globally acclaimed artists in the past.
Expectations are high for this year’s concert, which continues the tradition of delivering soul-stirring performances and unforgettable experiences.
