2024 Polls:Failed Galamsey fight alone is enough to vote against Bawumia and Mahama-former NPP GS

Nana Ohene Ntow, a member of the Movement for Change led by Alan Kyerematen, says Ghanaians should vote out the ruling New Patriotic Party on December 7 for failing to fight galamsey.

It could be recalled that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, before coming into government, put his Presidency on the line saying he will abdicate his seat if he is not able to stop this illegal mining.

Bawuma and Mahama

But after nearly 8 years in power, galamsey continues to ruin the country’s water bodies.

The Ghana Water Company Ltd. has warned the citizenry of the major threat of galamsey saying “about Sixty percent (60%) of the catchment capacity is silted as a result of illegal mining (galamsey) compromising the quality of raw water. We are currently recording an average turbidity of 14,000 NTU instead of 2000 NTU designed for adequate treatment”.

Nana Ohene Ntow, Former NPP General Secretary

Nana Ohene Ntow, discussing the issue, blamed both President Nana Akufo-Addo and former President John Mahama stating, “galamsey is a very clear evidence that governments have failed…The problem of Ghana is the human being”.

He stressed; “It saddens me that when we talk about galamsey today, it is a winning and losing election issue.”

He further took a swipe at President Nana Addo, cautioning Ghanaians against voting his successor, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in power.

“If the President knew that galamsey was so critical, so sensitive that if a President fails to curb galamsey, he must step down and he said this before coming into power, then President Akufo-Addo together with his party, government officials and especially the sector Minister in charge of environment and natural resources, both past and incumbent, has greatly disappointed Ghanaians,” he told host Kwami Sefa Kayi.

To him, both the New Patriotic Party and National Democratic Congress under Ex-President John Dramani Mahama have nothing better to do to stop galamsey, so called on them to vote for Alan Kyerematen who he believes has comprehensive plans and is ready to make galamsey a thing of the past.

“It is a political issue. It is an issue for which President Mahama should not be voted into power. NPP should not be voted into power. This particular issue alone is enough unless Ghanaians are not serious people,” he emphasized.
