Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will on, Wednesday, October 15, 2025, commence a nationwide tour of all 276 constituencies as he formally begins his campaign to be elected as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Flagbearer.
The tour, which promises to be a grassroots-focused engagement, is designed for Dr. Bawumia to interact directly with polling station executives, electoral area coordinators, current and former constituency executives, former MPs, former MMDCEs, as well as patrons and the council of elders.
The initiative, according to a release from his campaign team, “underscores his commitment to listening, building consensus, and strengthening the Party’s foundation from the ground up.”
Simultaneously, the Bawumia campaign team has issued a strong internal directive, calling for an immediate cessation of insults and personal attacks against other aspirants and their supporters.
In a statement signed by the Campaign’s Communications Director, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the team laid down a firm and unequivocal directive to all its communicators, supporters, and volunteers.
The campaign ordered them to “immediately cease and desist from any form of direct or indirect insults, derogatory remarks, and personal attacks against any other aspirant, their families, or their supporters.”
The directive, which aligns with the former Vice President’s recent call for unity, emphasises that all communications must be “grounded in verifiable facts, a comparative analysis of ideas, and the substantive track records of all involved.”
The campaign expressed concern about a recent trend where exchanges have “devolved into personal insults, unsubstantiated attacks, and the denigration of individuals,” describing such conduct as contrary to the NPP’s spirit and values.
Dr. Bawumia’s team expressed confidence that when the debate is focused on issues, his “qualifications, experience, and transformative ideas will resonate decisively with the delegates.”
President John Dramani Mahama has expressed confidence that Ghana will soon have its first female President, citing the country’s steady progress in promoting women’s empowerment and gender equality.
Speaking at the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women in Beijing, China, on Monday, October 13, President Mahama said Ghana has taken decisive steps to integrate gender perspectives into all national development policies.
“As the African Union Champion for Gender and Women’s Empowerment, I am proud to say that Ghana remains steadfast in its pursuit of equality for all,” he stated.

He highlighted Ghana’s historic achievements in advancing women’s participation in leadership, including the election of the country’s first female Vice President and the appointment of women to key positions across government, the judiciary, the security services, and major national institutions.
“These are not symbolic gestures; they are a deliberate affirmation that women deserve a seat at the highest levels of decision-making,” Mahama emphasised. “And I am confident that, in the very near future, our women will break the glass ceiling and that a woman will be president of the Republic of Ghana.”
President Mahama also pointed to significant progress in education, noting that Ghana has achieved gender parity in school enrollment, with more girls accessing and completing school than ever before.
“Our commitment is further demonstrated by robust institutional reforms and legal frameworks designed to protect the rights of women and girls,” he said.
He cited improvements in key institutions such as the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service, the Domestic Violence Secretariat, and the Specialised Domestic Violence Courts.
According to him, sustained budgetary allocations have strengthened these institutions’ ability to deliver justice, protection, and social support to survivors of gender-based violence.
President Mahama’s remarks formed part of his broader call for governments and international partners to take transformative action toward achieving genuine gender equality and empowering women worldwide.By:Kobina Welsing

The former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Second Vice-Chairman for the Ejisu Constituency in the Ashanti Region, who doubles as a member of the regional communications, Mr. Ntim Twumasi Kwaku, has together with the Ashanti NPP persons with disabilities (PWDs) leadership hit the ground running ahead of the 2028 general election with mobilisation of PWDs across the country.
NTK and Kwasi Kyei, National NPP PWD coordinator in a group photograph with participants
The maiden mobilisation drive was held at NTK apartments conference hall at Ejisu on Wednesday, 8th October 2028.
The conference, which brought together PWD coordinators/representatives from the 47 constituencies to strategise towards building a formidable force, was under the theme: “Building Inclusive Political Participation: Advancing the NPP PWD Agenda across Ghana”.
NTK with NPP national PWD coordinator and other leaders of PWDs
NTK, as he is affectionately called, said, “I’d like to first of all commend the leadership of the NPP, the various research committees, as well as the participants to the national delegates’ conference for adopting the PWD co-ordinator position within the party’s structure.”
Ntim Twumasi Kwaku (NTK) speaking to journalists after the conference
He continued, “Secondly, our meeting was to brainstorm and strategise for effective mobilisation drive, especially PWDs across the country and the exercise has just begun from the Ashanti Region, which is expected to be replicated in various regions and constituencies across the 16 regions of Ghana.”
“Per the last population census, about…2 million are PWDs and our target is to get accurate data of those who are NPP members and non-numbers and how to reach out to them to join the elephant party,” he added.
According to NTK, who is also a former British military officer, PWDs are not only marginalised in the area of employment but also in every sector of our society.
“As a PWD, I must confess that this has come as a great sign of acceptance of the phrase “disability is not inability” by the NPP. This also buttresses the call by PWDs for inclusiveness in every aspect of our development as a nation. The NPP has truly set the pace and is worthy of emulation by all other political parties, as well as public and corporate organisations. As the front runners in Ghana’s political space in innovative social intervention policies, the NPP has continually shown the desire to help PWDs live a dignified and respectable life. The position of the PWD coordinator directly gives access to PWDs to be a part of every decision made in the party from the constituency to the top echelons. I will entreat the leadership of the NPP to ensure that resources are made available for our PWD coordinators for effective and efficient delivery. The elephant will continue to be a winning symbol and will do everything within our power to help save Ghana,” he said.
NTK, therefore, urged the co-ordinators to work assiduously to identify and gather the data of all PWDs in their various constituencies for effective planning. “We need credible data we can rely on, so you could reach out to the Department of Social Welfare for the data to facilitate the process,” he indicated.
Key facilitators at the conference included Mr. Kwasi Kyei, the National Co-ordinator of NPP PWDs, who is also the immediate past Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the party; Mr. Ntim Twumasi Kwaku (NTK), David Aniah Awine, and former Deputy National Campaign Co-ordinator, Northern Belt.
Their presentations centred on “Overview of NPP PWD Mobilisation Agenda, Discussion & Inputs,
Reactions from Constituency Leaders, Strategies for Ashanti Region Mobilisation, Way Forward as well as Formation of Ashanti PWD Task Team and agreement on next steps.
Th national NPP PWD co-ordinator commended NTK for solely sponsoring the conference. He seized the opportunity and called on the PWDs as well as all NPP members to forgive one another. “Let’s bury the past mistakes and rekindle our efforts. Let’s all actively get involved,” he stressed.
On the selection of the co-ordinators, David Aniah Awine said they would compete with the position amongst themselves, so that no one would impose the PWD co-ordinators of constituencies on them
“We will make sure that the PWD co-ordinators are selected by PWDs themselves instead of someone imposing them on us. Let’s not focus only on PWD co-ordinators but also let’s go in for mainstream positions from the polling station level through to the national level,” he added.
Spokesperson for former Education Minister and New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, Yaw Opoku Mensah, has called on party members to rally behind Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, describing him as the unifying figure the party needs to secure victory in the 2028 general elections.
According to him, the NPP has a unique opportunity to unite for victory under the leadership and vision of Dr. Adutwum, whose commitment and strategic actions have consistently shown his readiness to reposition the party to its former glory.
Mr. Opoku Mensah cautioned against the continued existence of factions within the party, stressing that such divisions have over the years undermined the NPP’s progress and weakened its appeal to the Ghanaian electorate
Dr.Osei Yaw Adutwum
“Factions in our elements have never helped us advance as a political party. They destroy our ranks, making us struggle for acceptance as we seek governance from Ghanaians,” he said.
He added that some individuals and their followers have continually demonstrated disregard for the collective emotions and aspirations of the party’s base, thereby “pressing the destructive button” at critical times.
Yaw Opoku Mensah
“Individuals and their followers have repeatedly demonstrated their motives in pressing the destructive button, making it difficult to close our ranks for 2028,” he emphasized.
Mr. Opoku Mensah described Dr. Adutwum as a visionary and unifying leader whose focus on teamwork and progress aligns with what the NPP needs to rebuild confidence and win power in 2028.
“Dr. Adutwum has demonstrated his willingness to reposition the party to its glory as every action and strategy points to him as a unifying figure the party currently needs,” he noted.
He revealed that Dr. Adutwum has already begun touring parts of the country, engaging with party delegates and grassroots supporters as part of efforts to build consensus and promote unity ahead of the NPP’s presidential primaries.
Mr. Opoku Mensah added that several delegates across the regions have expressed confidence in Dr. Adutwum’s leadership qualities, urging all party members seeking leadership positions to emulate his example and put unity above personal ambition.
The NPP is expected to hold its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, to elect a flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
Members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), especially key stakeholders, have been cautioned to be wide awake in order not to fall into the usual propaganda tricks of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), particularly that of Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, in the lead up to the 2028 general election.
According to Mr. Patrick Kwame Frimpong, a former second-Vice Chairman for the Manhyia South Constituency ,who also served as first vice chairman for Manhyia North constituency in the Ashanti Region, in many instances, the incumbent National Chairman of the NDC, who is also the longest-serving General Secretary of the party, Mr. Asiedu Nketia, has set propaganda traps or tricks for the NPP to fall into them in taking certain decisions which they (NDC) quickly turn back to blame the NPP for such unpopular decisions.
Mr.Patrick Kwame Frimpong
Speaking to “The New Trust” newspaper ahead of the party’s flagbearer election, Mr. Frimpong, who doubles as the Presiding Member for the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), and the National Vice-President of NALAG, said should the leadership of the NPP fall into the NDC’s traps or tricks again in the selection of the party’s flagbearer in 2028 and beyond, the future generation and posterity would not forgive them.
“NPP leadership and the grassroots shouldn’t repeat the mistakes of listening to the NDC, especially General Mosquito, in taking unpopular decisions,” he said.
Mr.Johnson Aseidu Nketia, NDC National chairman
He recalled that “the NDC started its tricks by telling Ghanaians, particularly those in the Zongo communities that the NPP is an Akan party, for which reason it does not like our brothers and sisters from the Zongo communities and that led to the NPP appointing NASARA Co-ordinators.”
Lawyer Justin Frimpong Kodua,NPP General Secretary
They (NDC) followed it up by accusing the NPP in the run-up to the 2007 flagbearer primary that the 17 contestants were too many. “This same Asiedu Nketia referred to the aspirants as “17 thieves,” he added.
Mr. Frimpong continued that this accusation influenced the NPP to introduce “Special Delegates Conference” to reduce the number of aspirants from any number to five.
This unpopular article which was introduced into the party’s constitution has so far been scrapped because it was needless.
Besides, the NDC blamed the alleged money influenced on the delegates’ system for the party’s primaries and subsequently the NPP leadership kowtowed to it and again expanded the delegates to cover all polling station executives.
As if that was not enough,NDC continued with similar tricks and propaganda against NPP in 2012 through to to the selection of Dr.Mahamudu Bawumia, first Muslim and northern as NPP 2024 presidential candidate, they (NDC) turned around again to discredit him(Bawumia ).
Mr Frimpong said “as we (NPP) prepares to hold primary to elect Flagbearer for 2028 general election, the same NDC and their activists, have started what they (NDC) “know best’… against NPP.However, I wish to urge the rank and file of our party, especially the leaders and the delegates to be careful not to fall into the tricks of NDC in the selection of a Flagbearer, as well as the new leaders of the party ahead of 2028 elections”,he pleaded.
Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman hopeful, Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah (COKA), has issued a strong rebuttal after his name was caught up in a political storm triggered by a statement from the Ken Ohene Agyapong Campaign, stating categorically that he is not the ‘Koka’ they refer to.
The Ken Agyapong Campaign, in a press release dated Thursday, October 2, 2025, and signed by its Communications Director, Kwaku Amoh-Darteh, Esq., had warned Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s camp against “reckless defamation and personal attacks” being peddled by his surrogates. The statement singled out one Kwaku Osei Korankye Asiedu (popularly known as KOKA) as a loyalist of Dr. Bawumia who had allegedly “launched vicious and unprovoked attacks” on the person of Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong.
COKA. KOKA
The release read in part: “Our campaign has consistently focused on ideas, vision and principle. We have not resorted to personal vilification. Yet, in a recent and widely circulated video on Wontumi Television, one Kwaku Osei Korankye Asiedu (popularly known as ‘KOKA’), a well-known loyalist of Dr. Bawumia, launched vicious and unprovoked attacks on the person of Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong.”
It added: “It is therefore both astonishing and hypocritical for any of Dr. Bawumia’s followers to portray him as a ‘peaceful person’ while his camp tolerates and benefits from intimidation, bullying and abusive rhetoric. Silence in the face of such conduct is itself an endorsement. By failing to repudiate these attacks, Dr. Bawumia and his inner circle have, through inaction, condoned them.”
The campaign further warned that the Agyapong team would not sit idle if such attacks persisted. “Let there be no ambiguity; the Ken Ohene Agyapong Camp knows too much to allow reckless defamation to go unanswered. If they choose instead to drag this campaign into the gutter of personal vilification, they will awaken consequences they will come to regret,” the statement cautioned.
COKA Provides Clarity:
But the use of the nickname “KOKA” in the release sparked a flurry of confusion, with many party faithful and the public wrongly assuming the statement was targeted at the respected Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah (COKA), the Ashanti NPP stalwart.
Reacting swiftly to dispel the confusion, COKA set the record straight, insisting that he was not the individual being referred to in the Ken Agyapong Campaign’s statement.
“I have been receiving many calls regarding a statement issued by Hon. Ken Agyapong’s team over KOKA. Please be informed that the statement made by Hon. Ken Agyapong’s team is not in reference to me (Chairman COKA). The person in reference is Kwaku Osei Korankye Asiedu (KOKA). I kindly ask everyone to take note,” he clarified.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman aspirant emphasized that his political track record is well known and that he does not engage in reckless insults or unprovoked attacks. Instead, he reaffirmed his focus on promoting unity, discipline, and the strengthening of the New Patriotic Party.
COKA’s intervention comes at a sensitive time as internal competition between Dr. Bawumia’s and Ken Agyapong’s camps intensifies ahead of the party’s leadership race slated for January 31, 2025.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has formally referred its outspoken Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, to the party’s National Disciplinary Committee over alleged misconduct.
In a petition submitted by the General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party cited multiple actions by Mr. Baffoe which it described as “unbecoming of a member” and “gravely detrimental to the image, unity, and integrity of the organisation.”
Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC
Key concerns outlined in the petition include:
Defamation of a senior party member: Abronye DC is accused of making derogatory remarks against Kennedy Agyapong, including a claim that “even the elephant has more wisdom than Hon. Agyapong.”
False allegations against the General Secretary: He is alleged to have claimed that Mr. Kodua concealed a report recommending the expulsion of Mr. Agyapong — accusations the party described as “false, malicious, and injurious.”
Misrepresentation of committee findings: The petition further accuses him of disclosing and distorting the contents of a disciplinary committee report, breaching confidentiality and undermining the authority of the committee.
The party has requested the Disciplinary Committee to conduct a full and impartial inquiry into Mr. Baffoe’s conduct and apply appropriate sanctions in line with the party’s constitution.
According to the petition, ensuring accountability within the NPP is “non-negotiable,” as it is critical to safeguarding the party’s unity, integrity, and credibility.
“The leadership remains committed to fairness, discipline, and the protection of the Party’s democratic values,” the General Secretary stressed.By:William Narh
A new poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics has ranked the Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, as the leading contender to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) into the 2028 general elections.
According to the survey, Haruna Iddrisu commands 30% support, ahead of NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia with 24%, and Finance Minister Ato Forson with 18%.
Former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah follows with 10%, while North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa secured 8%.
Johnson Asiedu Nketia & Haruna Iddrisu
Other potential aspirants, including Eric Opoku, Joshua Alabi, Armah-Kofi Buah, and Kwame Awuah-Darko, each polled 2%, with Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah at 1%. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije did not register significant support in the poll.
When tested in alternative scenarios, Haruna’s dominance becomes even clearer.
In a three-way race excluding Ato Forson, he widens his lead to 45%, compared to Asiedu Nketia’s 37% and Julius Debrah’s 18%. Among NDC supporters alone, his backing rises to 47%, with particularly strong appeal in key swing regions where he garners 48% support.
However, the dynamics shift considerably if Haruna is absent from the contest. In that scenario, Asiedu Nketia takes the lead with 40%, narrowly ahead of Ato Forson on 38%, while Julius Debrah holds 22%. Among core NDC voters, the race becomes virtually tied—Asiedu Nketia at 42% and Ato Forson at 41%.
Interestingly, Forson performs best in the swing regions, where he overtakes Asiedu with 47% support against the Chairman’s 38%.
The findings suggest that while Haruna Iddrisu is currently the clear favourite, his absence would create a fiercely competitive two-horse race between Asiedu Nketia and Ato Forson, potentially reshaping the NDC’s succession landscape ahead of 2028.By:William Narh
