With barely a few days to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer election slated for Saturday, 31st January, 2026, a cross section of traders, especially market women in the Ashanti region, have endorsed Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong as their preferred candidate.

According to them, Mr Kennedy Agyapong is a tested and trusted businessman tycoon, and if given the nod by the delegates of NPP and subsequently becomes the next President of Ghana, he will be able to create more jobs to address the high unemployment rate in the country, which has affected their children, husbands and many Ghanaians.

Besides, under Mr Agyapong, Ghanaian businessmen and women will have peace devoid of intimidation and harassment or demolition of anyone’s properties.

The group believes that if the NPP truly wants to return to power come 2028, they should elect Mr Agyapong to lead them. That they were battle-ready to work assiduously to support his bid to maximise votes in the Ashanti region because they believe that Kennedy Agyapong has what it takes to solve Ghana’s unemployment problem.
A section of the market women
A cross-section of market women drawn from various markets in the Ashanti region made the declaration on Monday, 26th January, 2026, at Bantama market, ahead of the NPP presidential primary.
Speaking to journalists, Hon. Yaa Pokuaa, aka Obaa Yaa Racecourse, the former Assembly member for the Adumakese Kese electoral area in the Afigya Kwabre district in the Ashanti region, who doubles as a known serial caller of the NPP, as well as other market women who spoke to the media, openly declared their unflinching support for Mr Kennedy Agyapong as the best person to lead the NPP to victory come 2028.
They believe that with Mr Agyapong’s background as a businessman, who has so far created many jobs in the country, if given the mandate as the President of Ghana, he would be in the best position to create jobs to absorb the teeming unemployed youth in the country.
It is on the basis of that they are calling on the delegates of NPP, especially those in the Ashanti region, not to make any mistake but to vote massively for Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong as the party’s presidential candidate. Obaa Yaa Racecourse and her colleagues claimed that they have listened to the grassroots members, and the majority of them are saying, “No Kennedy Agyapong, no vote.”
Earlier, the Deputy Chief Imam for the Asunafo South district in the Ahafo region, Mallam Issah Ababio, who was first to address the media, explained their decision to come out stemmed from the recent claim by Mr Kwame Baffoe, aka Abronye DC, the Bono regional chairman of the NPP, that Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the former Information Minister under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who is also an MP, and Dr Mathew Oppong Prempeh, aka Napo, the former Energy Minister and 2024 running mate to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, have compensated Mr George Oti Bonsu, a financier of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), following the demolition of his buildings on a one-acre land at Adjiriganor in Accra. Mallam Ababio said Abronye also claimed the former second lady Samria Bawumia, the wife of Dr.Bawumia, knows nothing about the demolition.
Mallam Issah Ababio revealed that it was the court which ruled that Mr George Oti Bonsu should be compensated with fifty million Ghana cedis (GHC 50,000,000) as a result of the demolition of his 10-storey building.
He said “We traders in Ashanti region, especially market women are cautioning NPP delegates not to make any mistake to vote Dr,Bawumia as the party’s Presidential candidate again.else thousands of properties are going to be demolished.” We’re cautioning NPP delegates not to make any mistake and to vote for Dr Bawumia come Saturday 31st NPP Flagbearer primary to save the party from the anger of Ghanaian voters. He claimed many voters, especially Muslims, voted against Dr.Bawumia and NPP in 2024 general election because of anger…
