The Asante Patriots Network-Diaspora (APN-D),has cautioned the Vice President of Ghana, who doubles as the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer for 2024 general election,Dr.Mahamudu Bawumia, not to set a bad Precedent that will hunt his authority as the Leader of the Party(NPP).
The group, in a statement said “We want to humbly remind our beloved HE Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, that HE Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, chose you against the calls made by others in the favour of the late Alhaji MND Jawula, Hajia Alima Mahama and others, who were relatively known in the party.
Although, these personalities did not sponsor petitions, the calls made in their favour could have been heeded to, but the President chose you because besides competence, he had/has confidence in you, and was/is comfortable working with you as his Running Mate/Vice President.

The President again, smartly avoided the temptation of setting a bad precedent by ignoring the calls made by the majority caucus in Parliament to sack the Finance Minister.
There was the possibility of Majority Caucus and others employing the same strategy to coerce the President into taking certain decisions if he had succumbed to the calls for the dismissal of the Finance Minister. He respected their appeal, and engaged them, but only sacked the Finance Minister when he the President found appropriate”,the emphasized.
The statement was jointly signed by Julius Oteng-Mensah (USA),
Maame Adwoa Konadu (UK),
Mary Asantewaa Nyamekye (Germany),Dr. Kwame Kwarteng (China) and
Yaa Adutwumwaa Mmrosa (France) respectively.
The Asante Patriots Network-Diaspora (APN-D) statement heading
“HE DR BAWUMIA SHOULD NOT SET A BAD PRECEDENT THAT WILL HAUNT HIS AUTHORITY AS LEADER OF THE NPP – Ashantis in the diaspora warn Dr. Bawumia“.
The group in the said statement made wild allegations against Dr.Mathew Opoku Prempeh aka NAPO,the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, who doubles as Energy Minister in the lobbying for the position.
The group claimed that, they
are saddened by the attempts by Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh to use some constituency officers in the Ashanti Region to influence the selection of running mate by their Flagbearer, HE Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
They, alleged influencing of constituency executives to endorse Napo for the position(running mate) which is something that needs to be condemned by all, and “we are surprised people are quiet in Ghana. This has not happened before and it should not be encouraged. The Presidential Candidate should not be reduced to, or portrayed as someone who lacks the capacity to make sound judgment as a leader”.
The group admitted that,It is good to lobby or recommend, but it is unacceptable for NAPO to allegedly sponsor petitions and resort to other political tactics to impose himself as a choice to the Flagbearer.
It should only tell Dr. Bawumia how desperate NAPO is for power, which we find very dangerous for him, Dr. Bawumia”.
We the Ashantis in the diaspora are watching. Ghanaians are also watching you. This is a big test for you.
We trust you. We know you will not disappoint the silent majority of the party people across the length and breadth of Ghana as well as we the Ashantis in the diaspora. We also know you will not disappoint Ghanaians too.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti youth oganisers have clarified their stance amidst rumors circulating about their endorsement of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as a potential running mate for the party.
Dismissing the claims as misrepresentative of the broader sentiments within the region, the organisers emphasized the importance of democratic processes within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to Article 12 (b) of the NPP’s Constitution, the selection of the vice-presidential candidate lies within the prerogative of the presidential candidate, in consultation with the National Council.
The organisers underscored that it is not the mandate of youth organisers to exert undue influence on such decisions, stressing the need for democratic principles to prevail.
“It’s important to clarify that this assertion does not accurately represent the sentiments of the majority of youth organisers in the Ashanti Region,” the organisers stated firmly, addressing the misconception surrounding Dr. Prempeh’s alleged endorsement.
Dr.Mathew Opoku Prempeh aka NAPO
Furthermore, the organisers outlined the qualities they believe are essential in a vice-presidential candidate, emphasizing traits such as humility, respect across all sectors, national appeal, and widespread popularity among Ghanaians.
“To ensure maximum support from party members and the Ghanaian populace, it is paramount for our party’s leadership to consider a candidate who embodies these qualities,” they urged.
Below is the press statement
We Have Not Endorsed Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as Running Mate; Ashanti Youth Organisers
We wish to address the recent press statement regarding alleged widespread support for Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh for the position of running mate. It’s important to clarify that this assertion does not accurately represent the sentiments of the majority of youth organisers in the Ashanti Region. The purported endorsement merely reflects the views of a few individuals and does not speak on behalf of the broader Youth Organisers or their Constituency.
Article 12 (b) of the Constitution of the New Patriotic Party provides that, the selection of the vice-presidential candidate rests with the Presidential Candidate, in consultation with the National Council of the party. It is not within the mandate of youth organisers to exert pressure, whether directly or indirectly, on the Presidential Candidate regarding the choice of a running mate. Such actions would constitute undue influence and run counter to the democratic principles of our party.
To ensure maximum support from party members and the Ghanaian populace, it is paramount for our party’s leadership to consider a candidate who embodies humility, commands respect across all sectors, possesses national appeal, and is widely liked by the majority of Ghanaians before finalising the choice of a vice-presidential candidate.
We urge all members of our party to extend their support and prayers to the presidential candidate through prayers and encouragement as they deliberate on selecting a suitable vice-presidential candidate. Let us collectively uphold the democratic values of our party and strive towards unity in preparation for the upcoming elections.
Former Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ejisu Constituency, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, has announced his intention to contest the upcoming by-election as an independent candidate.
The declaration comes a day ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s primary to elect a candidate for the upcoming by-election.
A press release from the camp of the former MP ascribes the decision to sever ties with the NPP to the failure of party executives to deal with crucial concerns with the voter album.
Hon.Kwabena Owusu Aduomi
It further points to flaws in the election process for polling station executives, alleging that the deceased MP with the help of regional party executives handpicked some persons for key positions.

Hon. Owusu-Aduomi to contest Ejisu by-elections as Independent Candidate: A stand against party irregularities
In a bold move that highlights the importance of upholding democratic principles within political parties, Hon. Ing Kwabena Owusu Aduomi has announced his decision to contest the Ejisu by-elections as an independent candidate. This decision stems from the reluctance of the National Leadership of the NPP to address crucial concerns regarding the existing delegates album, a matter that strikes at the heart of party integrity and fairness.
The genesis of this decision traces back to the tumultuous Ejisu polling station executive elections, marred by irregularities that would have been deemed unacceptable in any democratic society. Rather than adhering to the democratic process, the late MP of Ejisu, with the assistance of the Regional Executives of the NPP, arbitrarily handpicked individuals to fill key positions—a blatant disregard for the party’s constitution and its fundamental principles.
Such actions have rightfully stirred vehement protests from conscientious party members and stakeholders across the nation. The issue has even found its way into the courts for adjudication, underscoring the gravity of the situation and the need for redress.
Hon. Owusu-Aduomi’s decision to contest the by-election as an independent candidate underscores his unwavering commitment to upholding democratic values and ensuring transparency and accountability within the party. By refusing to participate in an ostensibly flawed process, he sends a clear message that integrity and fairness must prevail, even at the expense of personal political aspirations.
This courageous stance serves as a beacon of hope for all those who cherish democracy and seek to safeguard the principles upon which our political institutions are built. It is a reminder that no individual or party is above the law, and that the will of the people must always be respected and upheld.
As the Ejisu by-elections loom on the horizon, Hon. Owusu-Aduomi’s candidacy stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of democracy and the enduring quest for justice and accountability within our political landscape. It is a call to action for all citizens to stand up and demand the transparency and fairness that are the bedrock of a healthy and vibrant democracy.
