The Convention Peoples Party is saddened by the havoc and disaster the heavy downpour in Accra has caused particularly today Monday 29th June 2026.
This disaster is a SELF INFLICTED since it was avoidable and preventable.
The indiscriminate building on waterways and water bodies has been a looming disaster for a long time, but we continue to sweep it under the carpet like money of our national problems.

The pouring and stuffing of heaps of garbage into our drainage systems is a known fact, but authorities have refused to arrest and punish offenders, leading to its legitimacy of sorts.

Today, the rainfall, which is supposed to be a blessing, particularly to our agricultural sector, has become a curse, claiming lives and destroying millions worth of properties.
The gloomy picture is that the rains are not stopping any moment soon, and already the death toll is rising, and the cost of destruction is yet to be counted.
The Convention Peoples Party is therefore calling on government to as soon as possible deploy the Ghana navy and every speedboat at their disposal as well as the blue water guards to help rescue, save and protect lives and properties amidst the flood.
The government of Ghana owes it as an emergency duty to swiftly do this.

Again, we are calling on the minister of energy to give directive to cut Electric power to all the flooded places where the water level has reached the electricity poles and sensitive electrical installations to prevent possible electrocution.
This regretful situation must be addressed with all hands on deck, especially by the security agencies and experts.
We are also calling on all Ghanaians to remain calm, vigilant, and avoid going to these flood prone areas to remain safe.
To all those who are stranded in your homes and other places, kindly call the emergency numbers for immediate assistance.
The main emergency numbers include:
Below are some emergency numbers once again
191 — Police emergency line (public safety, crime, threats)
192 — Fire Service (fires, smoke, rescue situations)
193 — Ambulance and medical emergencies
National Disaster Management Response numbers (NADMO) 112/ 0302964884/ 0291913977
The CPP prays for the safety of every Ghanaian and will continue to provide support, assistance, and help in this difficult time.
Signed
Osei Kofi Acquah
National Communications Director for the CPP
