The former Fomena constituency chairman for New Patriotic Party (NPP) and leading contender for the Ashanti Regional first vice chairman position, Mr Akwasi Nti, has expressed optimism of winning the race with a wide margin.

According to him, he is not just campaigning for victory but committed to working harder to promote victory for the party in the upcoming election.

Mr Nti, who is number three on the ballot paper, maintained that victory is not attained on a silver platter; it entails a lot of hard work, commitment, and dedication.

In an interview with journalists after successfully going through the vetting and balloting process on Monday, 20th July, 2026, held at Hasta Lodge in Kumasi, he said, “I am vying for this position as the Ashanti Regional 1st Vice Chairman to exhibit these attributes and help our party come into power in 2028.” Stressing, “I am the best for this position.”

He therefore appealed to the delegates to endorse his candidature with a commitment and assurance that he will not let the party and members of the elephant down.

Mr Akwasi Nti, who is happy about the promotion of factionalism and the growing indiscipline, challenged all aspirants for the various positions, especially the regional first vice position, to campaign on their own track records instead of campaigning on the wings of Mahamudu Bawumia and his wife, Samira Bawumia.

“Dr Bawumia is the father for all NPP members as a flagbearer for 2028; it’s very sad that many people are campaigning in the name of Dr Bawumia and his wife.

I’m urging all aspirants to desist from that and campaign on their own records and tell the delegates what they have done and if given the mandate what they can do to help strengthen NPP in the region and also help us win power come 2028.

Adding that we need everyone on board to ensure a resounding victory in 2028, any act that promotes division and factionalism should be encouraged.

Mr Nti also stated emphatically that, as part of his commitment to supporting the efforts to build a befitting regional secretariat for Ashanti NPP, in the unlikely event that he wins and Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah (COKA), the leading contender for the chairmanship position, doesn’t win, he’ll step down.

It will be recalled that COKA has made a public declaration that if given the nod, his administration will ensure construction of a befitting regional secretariat and that within 100 days in office a sod will be cut for the start of the project.

The regional first vice chairman, who said he was fully committed to the proposal, expressed worry about how his party, due to lack of a regional secretariat, has been holding meetings in people’s houses and behind vehicles.
