The race for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairmanship is gathering momentum, with leading contender Dr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu intensifying his grassroots campaign, calling on party delegates to unite behind a bold vision of hope, forgiveness, and renewal.
Launching the second phase of his regional tour, Dr. Kokofu visited several key constituencies, including Obuasi East, Akrofuom, New Edubiase, Fomena, Bekwai, Odotobri, and Bosome Freho, where he met newly elected constituency executives and congratulated those who secured victory in the party’s recent internal elections.
Addressing delegates at each stop, Dr. Kokofu painted a compelling picture of an NPP that must heal from recent electoral setbacks and reposition itself for victory in 2028.
He stressed that restoring hope among party faithful and rebuilding trust at the grassroots remain central to his vision for the Ashanti Region.
“We must restore hope to our party and strengthen the spirit of forgiveness and unity if we are to return stronger,” he told enthusiastic constituency executivs.
Dr. Kokofu, a former Chief Executive officer of the Environmental Protection Agency, outlined an ambitious blueprint aimed at transforming the party’s organisational strength.
His proposals include building a credible and reliable membership database, strengthening internal party and security structures, and providing greater resources to the youth and women’s wings to deepen grassroots mobilisation across the region.
He also pledged to reclaim traditional NPP strongholds that slipped to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the 2024 general elections, insisting that his combination of academic expertise, practical political experience, and leadership would provide the direction needed to rebuild the party.
“My leadership will be a blend of academic and grassroots knowledge, wisdom, and practical experience to make the party work again in the region,” Dr. Kokofu declared.
The former Member of Parliament for the good people of the Bantama constituency urged party members not to allow internal contests to create lasting divisions, emphasizing that the real battle lies ahead in the 2028 general elections, calling on every member, regardless of the outcome of internal elections, to unite behind Mahamudu Bawumia with one common objective—returning the NPP to government.
“Whether we win or lose, we have a collective responsibility to unite behind Dr. Bawumia,” he emphasized.
Dr. Kokofu further vowed that the party would not repeat what he described as the costly mistakes of the past by allowing misinformation and propaganda against the party’s presidential candidate and his family to go unanswered.
“We will not remain silent while falsehoods, propaganda, and malicious attacks are directed at our candidate or his family. The silence that allowed fabricated stories about Dr. Bawumia and his wife to spread unchecked must never happen again,” he stated.
He challenged every NPP member to become an ambassador for the party by confronting misinformation with facts, promoting the party’s achievements, and defending its values at every opportunity.
His message resonated strongly with executives across the constituencies visited, many of whom pledged their support for his bid. They urged him to remain committed to his promises, highlighting unity, improved party security, and adequate resource mobilisation as the key pillars needed to rebuild the NPP and position it for a decisive comeback in the 2028 general elections.
With the Ashanti Regional Chairmanship race entering a crucial stage, Dr. Kokofu’s renewed grassroots engagement is expected to further shape the contest as delegates prepare to choose the leader they believe can restore confidence, strengthen party structures, and lead the NPP back to electoral success.
