President John Dramani Mahama has announced substantive ministerial appointments and a reshuffle aimed at strengthening governance and service delivery.

As part of the changes, Dr. Zanetor Agyemang – Rawlings Mp, has been appointed Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, while Ahmed Ibrahim takes over as Minister for Works, Housing and water Resources

Former Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga, MP for Bawku Central, has also been named substantive Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.

In a related development, James Agalga, MP for Builsa North, has been named the new Majority Leader in Parliament.

The appointment of Mahama Ayariga means the Upper East Region now has 2 substantive ministers serving in government.

The other is Lydia Akanvariba Adakudugu Lamisi, MP for Tempane, who serves as Minister for Public Sector Reforms.

The appointments have been met with joy and celebration in the Upper East Region.

Speaking to the youth in the region, many described Mahama Ayariga as one of the most hardworking MPs they have ever seen.

They expressed optimism that his new role as Local Government Minister will accelerate development in the Upper East Region, which they noted is still lacking in many developmental projects.

According to the youth, the appointment of both Mahama Ayariga and James Agalga into key government positions is a testament to the President’s confidence in the people of Upper East Region and will bring improved development and better governance to the area.

There has been widespread jubilation and congratulatory messages across the Upper East Region as residents celebrate what they call a historic moment for the region.
