Have trust & confidence in Mahama-led govt to fix the energy crisis – Papa Jay urges Ghanaians

By:tntnewspaprgh.com

.Mr Jerry James Sukah, who is popularly known as Papa, the Ashanti Regional Deputy Communications Officer hopeful for the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), who is also the Oforikrom constituency Communications Officer for the party, has called on Ghanaians, especially those who have been affected by the recent power outages, to bear with the government and stakeholders in the energy value chain to fix the challenges.

According to him, the wishes of the NPP, coupled with their dirty propaganda that Ghana has gone back to Dumsor, will never see the light of day because all the necessary measures are being put in place to arrest the current power outages.

He has, therefore, called on Ghanaians to trust and have confidence in President John Mahama-led administration to fix the power outages despite NPP-led propaganda by their Members of Parliament (MPs) and communicators.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday, 30th April, 2026, Papa Jay, as he’s affectionately called, said, as we speak now “Mahama-led Government, through the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, has initiated several urgent measures to address ongoing power supply disruptions caused by infrastructure limitations and a recent fire at the Akosombo generating station”. He mentioned that some of the ongoing interventions by the government to fix the challenges include extensive infrastructure upgrades, financial restructuring, and emergency maintenance programmes to stabilise the grid.

According to the Ashanti Regional NDC deputy communications officer hopeful, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is also implementing a GH¢3.46 billion investment programme to install 2,500 new transformers and replace 1,600 rotten poles nationwide to ease the load on the network under “Operation Keep the Light On”.

Besides, following the Akosombo substation fire disaster that severely impacted generation, the government, through grid operator GRIDCo, has prioritised the repair of damaged control rooms and the rehabilitation of existing thermal plants to restore capacity. Key projects include the commissioning of the Accra Central Bulk Supply Point and ongoing 161kV transmission line upgrades to reduce low-voltage issues in Kumasi and surrounding areas, among other interventions.
