Stop the 8 Movement, a group comprising vibrant and energetic youth within the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is seriously embarking on a house-to-house campaign to ensure a massive victory for the party in the upcoming general election.
The Chairman for the group, Walley Bobby, in an interview with this paper, said the aim of forming the group is to campaign for the return of former President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC in the interest of good governance.
“Stop the 8 is all about campaigning against the NPP … from winning this general election to set a record of being the only political party to continue to rule Ghana for three consecutive terms,” he explained.

He said the group is canvassing for votes through the propagation of the party’s policies, adding that he strongly believes that based on their hard work and the reception accorded them, the electorate are highly convinced and would surely translate it into votes in the December polls.
According to Chairman Bobby, the group was formed before the flagbearer of the party picked the 8th position on the ballot.
He said the group is vibrant throughout the country, especially in the Ashanti Region where it believes an extra campaign effort could clinch victory for the NDC.
The Women’s Organiser for the group, Hajia Samitu, (Magajiya), said the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government had performed abysmally and needed to be kicked out in the December general election.
She said President Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia then in opposition promised to make living conditions better for Ghanaians when they won power, but there are growing hardships among Ghanaians.
According to her, the cost of living is becoming unbearable, especially among the youth, and there is the need to bring back the NDC to implement human-centred policies to ensure better living conditions for every Ghanaian.
She said Ghanaians should not trust Dr. Bawumia as he has nothing new to offer because he is part of the Akufo-Addo government.
“If Dr. Bawumia has any magic to perform, he should do it now because he is the current vice-president … If he is truly an economist, he should do something now and not wait until he becomes president for the nation,” she stressed.
According to her, the NPP is in a state of confusion now since it is the only party in Ghana since independence that is campaigning against its own policies.
“Dr. Bawumia is seriously campaigning to cancel the introduction of e-levy and tax on betting if he wins power, meanwhile they were introduced and supervised by you (Bawumia) and President Akufo-Addo,” she added.
On his part, the former Abirem Electoral Area Assembly Member, Mr. Abdul Fatawu Yahaya, said former President John Mahama is the only president who can redeem Ghanaians out of poverty and hardships.
He, therefore, urged Ghanaians to vote for him and the NDC in order to transform the nation.
