The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), led by the Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. Richard Kwasi Ofori Boadi Agyemang, has deepened collaboration with the Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) towards promoting railway development, protecting railway lands, and integrating rail infrastructure into the future growth plans of the Kumasi Metropolis.

The KMA delegation was received by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Railway Development Authority, Dr. Frederick Appoh, during a strategic engagement focused on strengthening institutional cooperation and exploring opportunities to modernise railway infrastructure in Kumasi.

Discussions centred on the protection of railway reserves, addressing encroachment challenges, improving urban mobility, and unlocking the potential of railway lands for sustainable commercial and mixed-use developments.

Hon. Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi emphasised the need for stronger collaboration between KMA and GRDA to ensure that railway projects are fully aligned with Kumasi’s spatial development plans and contribute meaningfully to improved transportation, economic growth, and urban transformation.

Dr. Frederick Appoh, CEO of GRDA, highlighted the importance of preserving railway corridors, sharing technical information, promoting integrated transport planning, and exploring strategic partnerships to support the successful implementation of Ghana’s railway modernization agenda.

Both institutions agreed to establish a Joint Technical Working Group, conduct joint inspections of railway lands, exchange technical information, and develop a roadmap for railway-oriented development within the metropolis.

The partnership is expected to enhance connectivity, reduce pressure on road transport, attract investment, and support the vision of transforming Kumasi into a modern, resilient and globally competitive city.

Together, KMA and GRDA are working towards a better-connected and more sustainable Kumasi.
