The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), led by the Mayor, Hon. Richard Kwasi Ofori Boadi Agyemang, has taken another significant step towards building a healthier and more resilient Kumasi through strategic engagements with the World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Ghana Office, UNESCO, UNICEF, IOM and World Vision Ghana in Accra.

The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration in critical areas including healthcare delivery, sanitation, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), child protection, nutrition, environmental health, technical education, capacity building, urban resilience and sustainable development.

The Mayor expressed KMA’s profound appreciation to WHO for its longstanding technical and financial support, which has strengthened disease outbreak response, routine immunisation, and public health interventions within the metropolis. He also appealed for continued support in providing modern medical and laboratory equipment, strengthening vaccine cold chain systems, and enhancing community healthcare services.

Officials of the United Nations and WHO reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Kumasi, describing health as a key driver of sustainable development and highlighting ongoing initiatives that address the growing challenges facing urban centres.

The delegation also held fruitful discussions with World Vision Ghana, where the Mayor called for stronger collaboration to address urban challenges such as water and sanitation, child welfare, youth empowerment, technical education and community development. World Vision Ghana welcomed the visit, describing it as timely, particularly as the organisation develops a new strategy focused on empowering cities through innovative urban programming.

Hon. Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi assured all development partners that every intervention and investment in Kumasi would be managed with transparency, accountability and a commitment to delivering lasting impact.
