The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Justin Frimpong Kodua has thrown a spanner in the works of organizers of the ‘Alan Kyerematen Health Walk’ which was billed for Saturday, August 8 in Kumasi.
In a phone conversation with the News Editor of Silver FM (Kumasi), Dominic Kwaku Boateng on Wednesday evening, the Chief Administrator of the ruling party hinted that the party’s leadership had put the screws to the organization of the health walk.
When later interviewed by Sir Obed Acheampong on Silver FM’s flagship political show dubbed ‘Ghana Ho Nkↄmↄ’ Wednesday evening, Mr Kodua (Esq.) disclosed that it was prudent that the top hierarchy of the party stopped all campaign and mobilization activities by individuals and groups on behalf of prospective presidential and parliamentary candidates to protect the unity and integrity of the party.
He reiterated his stance to remain neutral and transparent, and uphold the party’s constitution to the letter and underlined that during the ‘thanksgiving service’ to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the party, he vehemently rebuked some comments made by the Nasara Coordinator of the party, Aziz Haruna Futah which were viewed as a campaign message for a particular potential candidate.
He further revealed that a few days ago, his good office issued a statement reminding all members of the party, from polling stations to the national level, as well as all potential aspirants, to refrain from engaging in acts that contravene the supreme Constitution of the party and his statement specifically made reference to an invitation extended to the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka Chairman Wontumi, whom he cautioned for allegedly making open declaration for one of the potential candidates of the party’s flagbearership.
He made it known that the party needs to be united in their bid to elect a flagbearer for the 2024 polls, citing that the party’s goal of breaking the eight (8) will not come on a silver platter.
He referenced that the happenings in the lead up to the 2007 presidential primaries and finally the 2008 general elections sent them into opposition and swore to never allow that to happen again under his watch, therefore he has begged party faithful to have trust in him because he will not allow his personal interest, friendship or soft spot for any person derail the work that he is supposed to do as General Secretary of the NPP.
