Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the Bulsa North Municipality of the Upper East Region are calling on the Department of Social Welfare and the Municipal Assembly to urgently release the Disability Fund to beneficiaries.

According to Stakeholder and former Assembly member Godwin Abonaampo, no funds have been disbursed to PWDs in the municipality since 2025.

He said the delay has worsened the hardship of persons living with disabilities who depend on the fund for healthcare, education, business support and daily upkeep.

“From 2025 till now, nothing has come to PWDs in Bulsa North. Life is very hard for us. We are suffering.”

Stakeholder and former Assembly Member for Sandema further alleged that the Assembly has been diverting the PWD funds to other purposes instead of paying them to the rightful beneficiaries, Denied the PWD Management committee access to financial records and Administrative overreach.

He added that a number of petitions have been written to the Upper East Regional Minister Akamuguri Atanga Donatus and the Municipal Chief Executive for Builsa North Solomon Akogti ,but nothing has been done about them so far.

A member of the PWD Committee who spoke to Iddrisu Kassim on phone confirmed that no funds have been released to beneficiaries for over eight months now.

According to him, the delay has made life difficult for persons living with disabilities who rely on the fund for healthcare, education, livelihood support and other basic needs.

He noted that the committee is working hard to ensure the funds are released to the beneficiaries as soon as possible.

The accusation has sparked controversy between the PWD Committee, members of the disability community, and officials of the Municipal Assembly.

The aggrieved PWDs are now appealing to the Department of Social Welfare, the Municipal Chief Executive, the Regional Minister, and relevant authorities to intervene immediately and ensure the release of the funds to ease their suffering.
