Savelugu:AMPONSAH, BUGRI ARE 2023 NATIONAL CROSS COUNTRY WINNERS

The 2022 Defending Champion finished the 10km race with a time of 30.30:40 to emerge winner for the Ghana University Sports Union(GUSA) whiles Abigail Bugri from the Ashanti Region did same in the female category with a time of 38.14:99.

 

The event which is in its fifth year is aimed at scouting talent to represent Ghana in the All African Games scheduled for Next Year.

Speaking at the Closing Ceremony, the Director General of the National Sports Authority Prof. Peter Twumasi was proud of the talents that were on display during the race adding, that, the Country is blessed to have such Athletes who can represent her internationally.

He applauded the efforts of the President of the Land for using Sports as a tool to create opportunities for the youth through the expansion of Sports infrastructure and the creation of developmental programmes to target grassroot participation.

Prof. Twumasi further commended the Ghana Athletics Association for their continuous support for the project and urged the other Associations to do same.

The NSA boss expressed his sincerest appreciation to Ghana Gas, National Lottery Authority(NLA), GT Bank and (ADB) for sponsoring the 2023 Cross Country.

The Board of National Sports Authority led by the Chair, Hon. Seth Panwum was full of appreciation to stakeholders and the National Planning Committee for the good work done in his home region to commemorate the event. Other Board Members present were Mr. Sulley Sambian, Ghana’s Olympian, Emmanuel Tuffour and Nana Yaw Sarkodie Aboagye.

Key Dignitaries present were Hon. Hajia Ayishetu Seidu, MCE of Savelugu, Mr. Alhassan Alidu, Northern Regional Director of Education, Alhaji Naa Atia Mahamadu, Regional Athletics Chairman and the Regional Police Command.

Zug’lana Professor Natogmah Yakumah was the Chairman of the occasion representing the Paramount Chief of Savelugu, Yoo-Naa Yakubu Abdulai Andani.

The Event which is a flagship programme of the NSA is organised yearly to usher in the sporting calender.Source:NSA.
