Two masons, Kwaku Kesse aged 21 and Owusu Foster aged 34, have appeared before the Ejisu District Court in Ashanti for allegedly robbing a bus conductor of personal belongings. Both the accused are residents at Krapa Number One in the Ejisu Municipality, while the complainant is a resident at Effiduase in the Sekyere East District of Ashanti.
Briefing the court presided over by Mr. Kwaku Baah Frempong about the facts of the matter, the Prosecuting Officer, Chief Inspector Victoria Afaribea Mensah said on the 30th of last month, while Joshua Tetteh the complainant was waiting at the frontage of a drinking spot on the shoulders of the road to board a vehicle to Ejisu, Kesse in the company of a gang passed in front of him.
After going a short distance, the gang returned to question Tetteh on why he was staring at them when they were passing by.
An argument ensued between members of the gang and Tetteh and in the process, Kesse pulled out a scissors and ordered him to follow them to a lotto kiosk which was about 50 metres away. Chief Inspector Afaribea Mensah said for fear of his life, Tetteh obliged and upon reaching there, Owusu and other members of the gang emerged from their hideout and surrounded him.
They then accused Tetteh of being a police informant who has been assigned to monitor their movement, a claim which Tetteh refuted, saying that he was a bus conductor and had nothing to do with the police.
Not satisfied with the response, Kesse asked the complainant to call some people on phone to confirm that he was a bus conductor. Chief Inspector Afaribea Mensah said no sooner had Tetteh begun to make the calls than Kesse seized the mobile phone and asked the complainant to leave the place.
The gang however trailed the complainant and attacked and robbed him of his personal effects including another mobile phone and an amount of one thousand 200 Cedis and absconded.
Chief Inspector Afaribea Mensah said the complainant then reported the matter to the police, leading to the arrest of both Kesse and Owusu.
Meanwhile, Kesse has been remanded into police custody, while Owusu was granted 20 thousand Cedis bail with two sureties. This was after the complainant told the Court that Owusu did not take part in the robbery.Source:GBC
