The first vice chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency in the Ashanti region, Mr John Kwame Duodu, who is popularly known within the political space as “Sir John”, has declared his intention to contest for the position of constituency secretary, pledging to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and restore the party to power in the 2028 general elections.
Speaking on his vision for the role, Sir John said the NPP must intensify its efforts to engage voters at the base level if it is to reclaim political leadership.

He stressed that party officials must move beyond routine administrative duties and actively work to expand the party’s support base.“It’s time we stood up and made a more deliberate effort in canvassing for more votes for the party,” he said.

“The work ahead requires commitment, presence on the ground, and a clear focus on the people who form the backbone of the NPP.”Sir John emphasised the need to elevate the role of the grassroots in party decision-making and activity.
According to him, a stronger, better-resourced grassroots structure is essential for effective campaigning and for maintaining trust between the party leadership and its members.

.“My priority will be to make the grassroots stronger and more visible within the party’s operations,” he stated. “When the base is empowered, the entire structure becomes more effective, and that is how we win elections.”
As First Vice Chairman, Sir John has been involved in party organisation and mobilisation in the Atwima area, a key constituency in the Ashanti Region. He said his experience in the role has given him firsthand insight into the challenges facing polling station executives and ordinary members and that he intends to address those gaps if elected secretary.
He also vowed to uphold the integrity and principles of the NPP in all his engagements, noting that discipline and accountability within party structures would be central to his campaign.
PThe NPP is expected to hold internal elections
across its constituencies in the coming months as part of preparations for the 2028 polls.
Political observers say the outcome of these contests will be critical in shaping the party’s organisational strength and its ability to regroup after losing the presidency in 2024.
Sir John joins a growing list of aspirants across the country who have begun declaring their intentions and engaging delegates ahead of the internal elections.Sourde;Kumasipioneer
