Ensure free & fair internal elections-Former Manhyia North 1st vice-chairman tells NPP leadership

The rank and file of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) across the country, especially national and regional through to constituency executives, have been urged to consider the supreme interest of the party over individual interest in the ongoing internal elections.

The national executives of the party and all bodies tasked with supervising the ongoing polling station elections should adhere strictly to the rules and regulations governing the conduct of polling station and electoral area elections, which is the based of the party.

“Right now what is going on is a clean repetition of the previous past mistakes of removing some people from the process and strategy of protecting some incumbent Members of Parliament (MPs) and their favourite polling station executives.

“I’m therefore humbly appealing to the leadership of the party and all bodies tasked to supervise the polling stations’ election to ensure it is free, fair, and transparent.”

Mr Patrick Kwame Frimpong, who has held several positions in the party, including former polling station youth organiser, organiser Adwee Nkwanta polling station, and 2nd vice chairman Manhyia constituency, as well as acting first vice chairman Manhyia North constituency, made the passionate appeal in an interview with “The New Trust” newspaper on Thursday, 23rd April, 2026.

According to him, the need for the leadership of the party to ensure a free and fair process beginning from the polling stations level to strengthen the base of the party ahead of the 2028 general election cannot be overemphasised. If care is not taken to avoid a situation where people are working seriously to protect certain Members of Parliament (MPs), favourites in the polling stations, electoral areas, among others, the disgruntled members who do not get an opportunity may go independent, and that will affect the fortune of the NPP’s ultimate goal of recapturing power in 2028.

I’m appealing to the national leadership of the party and the various elections committees to ensure a transparent, free, and fair process to avoid disunity after the process. As we speak now, some MPs and other constituency and polling station officers are adopting several strategies to maintain their positions, frustrating the laid-down processes that are supposed to be free and fair. If we don’t ensure a free and fair process beginning from the base and decide to protect individuals and repeat previous mistakes and lose the 2028 polls, what profit will we gain as a party which believes in democracy?

Mr Patrick Kwame Frimpong, who doubles as Presiding Member (PM) for the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly and NALAG national vice president, said, “Let’s avoid individual and group interests and contribute our quota to ensure a transparent process from polling stations through the national level.” We should all remember we need a united front to recapture power from the NDC come the 2028 general election,” he added.
Stressing what “What profit will it make for NPP if we protect some MPs or some incumbent executives from the polling station to the national level and lose the elections in 2028? Let’s work to ensure a free and fair process from the polling station level through the national level. ‘We NPP’ needs to learn from the past mistakes that led to disgruntled members going independent, contributing to the party’s defeat and losing many seats to NDC.
