He continued that “it is with great joy and gratitude to God that I stand before you today.” I am deeply excited about how far the Lord has brought us and the opportunity to witness this important moment—the official launch of “Good Citizen Ghana.

Apostle Emmanuel Kofi Appiah, who’s also the founder and leader of Heaven City Ministry International Church said “oday marks not just the beginning of an organisation, but the start of a movement aimed at transforming attitudes, shaping mindsets, and building a stronger nation through responsible citizenship.

Background of Good Citizen Ghana:

Good Citizen Ghana” is a non-governmental organisation established to educate citizens on their rights and responsibilities. It seeks to highlight the do’s and don’ts of civic life while promoting awareness of proper hygiene practices within our communities.

As a nation, Ghana has been blessed with great leaders—from the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, Professor John Evans Atta Mills, to President John Dramani Mahama and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.These leaders have all contributed their quota to national development. However, the progress of any nation does not depend solely on its leaders but also on the attitudes and actions of its citizens.

Unfortunately, negative attitudes and irresponsible behaviours among some citizens have slowed down our national development. This is why the call for responsible citizenship is urgent and necessary.

Who is a good citizen?

A good citizen is one who balances personal freedoms with social responsibilities. Such a person obeys the laws of the land, pays taxes, and actively participates in civic duties.

A good citizen respects the rights of others, contributes to community development, protects the environment, and upholds the values of honesty and integrity.

Key Duties and Responsibilities of a Good Citizen:

  • Obeying the laws of the land to ensure peace and order

Paying taxes to support national development
– Participating in elections and civic processes
– Engaging in community service and volunteerism
– Respect others regardless of ethnic background or opinion
– Protecting and preserving the environment*
– Supporting national security by reporting crime scenes.

In some countries, such as Nigeria, individuals and communities have supported infrastructure developments, including road construction, in collaboration with the government agencies. This is the spirit of patriotism we must embrace.

Call for Behavioural Change:

It is worrying that many Ghanaians continue to refuse to dispose of refuse indiscriminately on streets and in gutters—leading to poor sanitation and environmental hazards. This must change.Let us all commit ourselves to doing the right thing at the right time. Cleanliness and proper hygiene are not optional; they are essential for healthy living.

I also want to use this platform to advise, especially the youth, to desist from anti-social vices such as drug abuse (including tramadol and marijuana), excessive alcohol consumption, robbery, and other criminal activities that threaten our society.Indiscipline has also become a major concern.

There is growing disrespect for elders and the misuse of social media to insult and demean others.

This should not be the hallmark of a responsible society. Additionally, indecent dressing among some of our youth, particularly young women, is becoming alarming. It is time to uphold good morals and present ourselves in a dignified manner that reflects our values and culture.

Promoting Law and Order:

A good citizen does not shield wrongdoing but helps to expose it. Let us support the law enforcement agencies by reporting criminals so that our communities can be safe and peaceful.

Call for Collective Action:

Together, we can build a disciplined, responsible, and prosperous Ghana.Let us all rise to the occasion and commit to being good citizens. Remember, national development begins with individual responsibility.

Future Plans:

Good Citizen of Ghana has plans to establish offices across the country to intensify public education and awareness on responsible citizenship.”

The chairman for the ceremony, who doubles as the host of Kessben TV Maakye Morning Show, Wofa Kofi Appiah, Nana Kwabena Asamoah, the Abusuapainn of the Fumesua community, among other speakers, unanimously endorsed the Good Citizen Ghana ideas.

They pledged their unflinching support for the organisation and entreated all Ghanaians to support their activities.
