Deputy Minority Leader and MP for Asokwa, Patricia Appiagyei, has raised serious concerns over the country’s stark unemployment situation.
Citing data from the Ghana Statistical Service when she addressed newly elected polling station executives of Asokwa NPP over the weekend, she pointed out that high youth unemployment in the region of 70% poses a critical national security threat, creating a breeding ground for crime and social vices.
Taking a swipe at the current administration, the Asokwa MP criticized the government’s failure to address the crisis

Background
“The current administration promised jobs for the youth but has unfortunately turned a deaf ear to them,” she stated.
She noted that, “the NDC and Mahama government have abandoned their flagship 24-hour economy promise, which was supposed to triple job opportunities for the unemployed.”

Defending NPP’s Legacy
The legislator challenged the newly elected polling station executives in Asokwa to remain vigilant and constantly remind the public of the historic, impactful policies implemented by previous NPP administrations.
She highlighted the achievements of the Kufuor administration, which introduced the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and free maternal healthcare to relieve Ghanaians, particularly women of the financial burden of medical and childbirth costs.
Furthermore, she noted that the subsequent Akufo-Addo administration built upon that foundation by introducing transformative policies, including:
The provision of nationwide emergency ambulances
“These far-reaching policies are exactly what our polling station executives and party members should be championing,” Appiagyei urged.
She stated, “by reminding Ghanaians of this track record, the NPP will be the obvious choice in the 2028 general elections.”
Smooth Election Process
Earlier in the program, Mr. Eric Kyei Baffour, the National Office representative who supervised the polling station executive elections, commended his committee members for executing a smooth and successful exercise.
He expressed profound gratitude to the Deputy Minority Leader for personally resourcing the committee and covering the registration and processing expenses for new entrants into the executive fold.
According to Mr. Baffour, the Asokwa constituency now boasts over 1,200 polling station executives. He noted that the upcoming electoral area coordinators’ elections will finalize the grassroots delegate list ahead of the Constituency Executive Elections scheduled for July.
While administering the official oath of office, Mr. Baffour charged the new executives to work diligently and uphold their mandates as the vital foundation of the party.By Beatrice Spio-Garbrah
