PRESS RELEASE
TO: ALL MEDIA HOUSES
DATE: 20th NOVEMBER,2024
As Ghana prepares to head to the polls on December 7th, the African Electoral Institute is reminding voters to kindly put Ghana first. Anytime a country goes to the polls its citizens must really consider the following options:
1. where the nation is economically, politically, socially etc
2. it’s current challenges
3. its potentials and then
4. who is well positioned above all considerations to lead it into the nation it seeks- politically, economically, socially, culturally etc
The institute is urging Ghanaians to “Choose their next leaders because they are convinced in your heart of heart beyond reasonable doubt that these candidates can deliver the Ghana they want. This must not be done base on emotional attachments to individuals or political parties, cronyism, nepotism, tribalism, religious affiliation etc
The constitution of Ghana allows for the formation and participation in political parties to provide policy pathway options for running the nation.
AEI states that, this must not lead to unconditional or blind faith in a political party to the detriment of the nation. In the voting booth, Ghanaians must be citizens not party affiliates. This is why no party apparels or paraphernalia are allowed at polling stations.
The African Electoral Institute (AEI) therefore prays against the unfortunate situation whereby Ghanaians choose party interest over national interest when clearly that party interest is in aberrance with the national interest at that material moment. The aim of Ghanaians at every material moment should be “who or which party can take us to the next level?” It is not black and white issue but Ghanaian must determine, among the candidates presented, one who can deliver the ‘Ghana’ the people want and this can only be done when majority of Ghanaians are able to align individual, group or party interests to the national interest such that national interest reigns supreme or supersedes all other interests at all times.
The Institute emphasizes that this election is not just about choosing a political party or candidate, but about selecting leaders who will prioritize Ghana’s progress and well-being.
The Institute encourages voters to look beyond party affiliations and consider candidates who will address pressing national issues.
Key Considerations for Voters:
- National Interest: Prioritize Ghana’s development and prosperity over party loyalty.
- Candidate Integrity: Evaluate candidates based on their character, honesty, and commitment to transparency.
- Inclusive Governance: Support leaders who champion the rights and interests of all Ghanaians.
The African Electoral Institute further urges citizens to engage in constructive dialogue, promote peaceful campaigning, and ensure that the electoral process remains free from violence and intimidation. By choosing Ghana over political affiliations, voters can help build a brighter future for the nation.
Ghanaians, help make Ghana work the way you want by going out in your numbers to vote come December 7th 2024.
