The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has completed the reconstitutions of its five sub-metros and town councils with a clarion call on the elected chairpersons and councillors to make sure the structures work at all times.
The peaceful exercise saw the elections of chairpersons for Nhyiaeso, Batama, Subin, Manhyia South, and Manhyia North sub-metros as well as for the various town councils’ chairpersons.

The separate reconstitutions were witnessed by Kumasi Mayor Mr Richard Ofori Agyemang, who is popularly known as King Zuba; Mr Patrick Kwame Frimpong, the presiding member of the assembly; Mr Francis Dwira Darko, Metro Coordinating Director; and other officials.

The reconstitution of the sub-structures was in line with the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), which states in part that Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) establish and operate sub-structures to promote participatory decision-making processes or governance.

It is against the background that the longest-serving Assembly Member for the Krofrom East electoral area, who doubles as the Presiding Member (PM) for KMA, Mr Patrick Kwame Frimpong, encouraged the newly elected sub-metros and town council chairpersons to let the structures work.
Mr Frimpong, who is also the first vice chairman for NALAG and Dean of Association of Presiding Members in the Ashanti region, urged that the sub-metro chairmen to use LI 2223, and town chairpersons to also use or apply LI 1967 to ensure effective structures.
KMA PM appeals to the chairpersons and councillors to let the structures work. “I’m urging the newly elected chairpersons to call meetings regularly to engage the assembly members and unit committee members so as to help strengthen the structures for effective development.
Stressing, “It’s only through regular meetings that members can get the opportunity to share their opinions or ideas to help promote participatory governance.
” Our ultimate goal is to help the local government structures work. Let’s all, therefore, play our roles effectively,” he added.
On his part, the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Richard Ofori Boadi Agyemang, who is affectionately called King Zuba in the political space, noted that functional sub-metro and town councils are critical to the assembly’s decentralisation agenda.

He said the structures will serve as the first point of contact for residents, helping to address local concerns, mobilise communities for development projects, and ensure efficient delivery of essential services.
The mayor also expressed confidence that the reconstituted bodies will work closely with assembly members, traditional authorities, and residents to accelerate development and improve sanitation, revenue mobilisation, and urban management in Kumasi.
